![]() Welcome to 2018! We enter a new year with good intentions, optimistic that this will be the year of our dreams. At midnight on New Year’s Eve we toast each other with champagne and set resolutions for the new year. We have good intentions but only 8% see success, and 92% of resolutions fail. For the first month of 2018 DYG Coaching’s blogs will focus on techniques to help you remain in the 8%, and see success in your best year yet. Why do so many people fail to realize success in their resolutions? There are many reasons, such as structure, vague goals, and many more. We will examine each of these reasons in coming weeks, but today we are going to focus on roadblocks. Sugar is bad but cookies are yummy Ever tried to lose weight? It can be tough to do. A friend posted on Facebook “My goal for 2017 was to lose ten pounds. I only have fifteen more pounds to go!” We’ve all been there - you’re doing great on your diet, eating healthy, drinking water, and then one day you are a little bit stressed, and a little bit hungry, and someone pulls freshly baked cookies out of the oven. Those cookies smell oh so delicious, and offer a moment of comfort during a hectic day. Uh oh. Diet roadblock! What to do? Every dieter knows that losing weight is a challenge. Roadblocks to diet success come up, we eat one cookie, then two, then ten. We feel like we failed. But what is FAIL? First Attempt In Learning. Learn from what went off course, and keep going. Don't let a roadblock halt your journey. Perhaps your goal is physical fitness. One friend would like to increase her number of daily steps, but struggles with a busy schedule filled with work, family, and friends. Her goal is to walk more, but time is a real roadblock. She uses a calendar app on her phone to maintain her schedule and has committed to an appointment for herself at 5:15pm every day. That appointment is simply to put on her walking shoes. She knows that she can hold herself accountable for putting on her shoes every day at the same time no matter how busy she is. That gives her a small success for the day. Once the shoes are on, it is easier to take a walk, even if only for five minutes. Be creative to bust through a roadblock. What is your goal? Have you identified potential roadblocks? Do you have a plan to detour or bust through? Take ten minutes for yourself, grab your favorite beverage and answer the following questions. My goal for 2018 is: Three potential roadblocks are: 1. 2. 3. Three strategies around these roadblocks are: 1. 2. 3. Next week we will explore BHAGs (that acronym sounds scary, but it’s really fun!). Until then, best wishes for your 2018 success and if you would like to supercharge your goals and dreams contact DYG Coaching for a complimentary coaching session.
